Today's Gospel: John 10:27-30
The Trinity exhibits the ongoing, all-powerful love of self-giving. When parenting a child, we should strive for a similar, never-ending love that mimics that of the Trinity.
One of the greatest tragedies is losing a child. Speaking from a personal perspective, the emptiness and despair is physically as well as emotionally unbearable. What is less often thought about, however, is what it would be like to lose that child's soul. In other words, what if our child, or spouse, or parent for that matter, were to reject Christ? Could we ever be lukewarm? What type of love is it if this thought doesn't overwhelm us in the most powerful ways comprehensible by man?
While one might think it unbearable to even imagine, the reality is we have been told the gate to Heaven is narrow. The purpose of our lives must be to do as much as possible to secure this path for all. As God's love is infinite, I have been granted the responsibility to help those around me by constantly striving to hear His voice. I pray my loved ones may do similarly by example, as we are the product of those we are most around. Knowing I am a child of God, I can remember we are protected as one body, united in His teaching, Word, and sacrifice. With this, I can be brave and know that Christ won't ever let me go if I ask Him to help me. For my loved ones then, I pray they too shall know of Christ's all-powerful, unbreakable love.
Ponder:
What if we were to gain the world but lose our loved one's soul?
Pray:
As human beings, we are far from perfect, but we are called to share God's love first and foremost with those in our own families. Let us be attentive to hearing God's voice and emulating the Trinity's selfless love at all times.
