Reflection by Lyn Francisco

Today's Gospel: John 14:1-6

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

How many times have I seen this written in various places? Of course, it’s Thomas (who was the one who had to feel Jesus’ hands, feet, and side to believe He had truly risen from the dead) who asked Jesus about “the way.” But what, exactly, is “the way?”

I’ve had friends walk the Camino in Spain and return with amazing stories of their experiences as they walked “the Way.” One of my friends, a priest from the Netherlands, shared his experiences of the Camino on social media and on his podcasts. After having spent the day walking 40 kilometers to the town of Nájera, he discovered that all the albergues and hotels were full. He was brought to a convent where a group of Clarist sisters were staying. After Mass, he was told he could spend the night there and sleep on the couch in the parlor. This shows that the places that the Father prepares for you can appear in the most unexpected places!

Jesus said,

“You have faith in God; have faith also in me” (14:1).

From what my friend said, it sounded like he learned this lesson as he continued his journey on the Camino: “The biggest lesson is to trust. To not try to control. It’s very hard to do! The Camino is very physical. It’s very tough.” I can only imagine how difficult it must be. I would love to walk the Camino, but I know for me, it would be a challenge, physically and mentally. Just as Jesus asked his disciples to have faith in Him, I should also have faith that I can do this, too.

Ponder:

In what ways have you had to take it on faith that you will be able to accomplish something?

Pray:

Gracious God, help us to trust in Your will in all that we do. Help us to know Your will as we live day by day.
