Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Mark 10:32-45

What mom has not heard the words, “Mom, do you like me best?” Since I am opposed to favoritism, my response is always the same: “I like all of my children best! I do not play favorites.”

One day, Jesus was approached by two of His disciples, James and John. In their pride, they came to ask Jesus a favor. He already knew what they were thinking.

“Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left.”

Jesus questioned them,

“Can you drink the chalice that I drink or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” Mark 10:37-38

The other disciples were indignant with James and John thinking, how dare they ask?

Isn’t that the way with most? They are looking for a “Give-Me-God.” If you want to be great in God’s kingdom, you must be a servant of Jesus. You must lay down your life for others and pick up your cross and follow Him.

Motherhood can be a training ground for giving not getting. We learn to give the last cookie to our child even though chocolate chip cookies are our favorite. We find the strength to run on a broken toe just in the nick of time to grab a toddler who wanders toward the street. We learn to exist on sleepless nights, wearing spit-up on our blouses with a Cheerio in our hair and a smile on our faces. We rarely think “What about me?” because our focus is on the family.

I was playing Candy Land one day with my grandchild, Bella. Of course, I let her go first. After taking her turn. Bella happily said, “Your turn, Nana!” I placed my hand on my marker when Bella piped up with, “No, Nana, I want all the turns!” It was a teachable moment. The Christian walk leads us from me to we in Thee. It is a journey!

Ponder:

What can I give to You today, Jesus? Whom can I help?

Pray:

Dear Jesus, let my life be a thank you card to You for all that You have done for me. Let me look more at meeting others' needs than my own.
