Daily Gospel Reflection for June 3, 2022

Today's Gospel: John 21:15-19

In today’s Gospel, the risen Lord asks Peter three times whether or not he loves Him. When Peter says that he does, Jesus doesn’t move on, but instead He gives him a particular action to accomplish. The first time He asks Peter to feed His lambs. The second time He asks Peter to tend His sheep, and the third time He asks him to feed His sheep. Jesus says that Peter is to accomplish all of these actions for the love of God. He is teaching Him to take His God-sized love and give it to those that need it!

Jesus teaches us that love is not just a noun, it’s a verb! When we love with our whole being, we place into action those things that the Lord has called us to do. We may show love for our family by making a special dinner for them or buying them a special treat. We show love to our friends by providing a listening ear or helping them in times of need. We show love to the Church by helping out ministries like the St. Vincent de Paul Society or volunteering to help for an event. In all of these things, we should be moved by the love of God.

Jesus teaches us that He is all about love in action. He has made us all in a unique and special way to give to others with our time, talents, or treasures. Today, consider if there is an area of your life where you could give more of yourself. This may be at home, at work, or in the Church community.

The more we put love into action, the more we resemble our Lord. Let us all be the hands and feet of Jesus as we put love into action in the world around us!

Pray:

Father, I thank You that You have tasked me with bringing the love of Christ to all. Help me to find the places that I can bring Your love to others and let it begin in my own family.
