Today's Gospel: John 21:20-25

I know I am a sinner. If we are all sincere with ourselves, our judgment call is likely to be “sinner.” This is not something to hold onto but something to acknowledge and overcome. Our Lord Jesus is calling us to overcome our sin, spurring us to work towards salvation - salvation attainable only by His grace, which is received by choosing Christ over the sins of the world and communing with Jesus.

God is calling all of us. Some of us are walking with Christ, but we also recognize that some of us are walking away from Him. Some of us even change direction often. This is a busy road, and we are all here together. Can we be grateful for the many souls helping us take even a single step forward towards the goal of Heaven?

We do also meet many trying to steer us away from our Lord. They accompany us on the road, also called to Christ yet misguided by the world of sin. How should we discern their advice? Should they still be with us on this road? Our Lord answers that question.

“Lord, what about him?”

Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.” (John 21:21-22)

Our enemies will remain amongst us; they also have their call. For us, one of the hardest things to do is to look into the eyes of our foes and sincerely pray for their conversion, that they might make it to Heaven. Because we are all sinners, let us live in the hope that we might all have our hearts transformed. Can we grow to become the loving helpers on the road to Heaven? We can if we keep our eyes firmly on our Lord.

Ponder:

Bring to mind someone that has tried to steer you off the path to Heaven. Ask our Lord to help them see the way to Him. Sincerely pray for their conversion.

Pray:

Lord, we are all your loved ones. We pray for those who do not know You, do not see You, and do not love You, that their hearts and minds be opened to You and turn away from sin, that together, we may get to see the light of Your face.
