Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: John 17:11b-19

Close your eyes and imagine Peter, James, and John in the Garden of Gethsemane with Jesus. They were tired yet trying to stay awake and pray with Jesus as He asked. Before John succumbs to his exhaustion, he hears Jesus praying to the Father.

What is Jesus praying for? He is praying for His apostles and for all His disciples, including us. He is praying for unity among us. Not a “go along to get along” kind of unity. Jesus wants us to be one with God Himself. A union that enables us to be fully human, fully alive.

He is praying that we experience His joy. A joy that is found deep within us. A joy that is present even amid troubles, hatred, and longing. The kind of joy only God can give.

He is praying for our protection against evil. Jesus knows Satan is real, that he can trick us and lead us astray. Jesus also knows that His Father watches over His children with greater care and concern than any earthly father.

Finally, He is praying that we be sanctified. Jesus, through His death and resurrection, won for us the graces to become holy. By His Blood, we are consecrated, set apart from the world, for the sanctification of the world.

Jesus has something for us to do in this world. A mission unique to each one of us. A mission that will give us great and lasting joy. A mission that, as we see it through day by day, makes us more like Him who commissioned us.

Ponder:

In this time of prayer, Jesus is right bedside you. What is it that you want Him to ask His Father for you?

Pray:

Lord Jesus, thank You for remembering me to Your Father. May Your prayers be answered.
