Today's Gospel: John 14:15-16;23b-26
“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.” - John 14:26
It is amazing how the Holy Spirit works in our lives and changes everything.
Often in ways that we are not aware of until years later.
When I met my husband, I was a non-practicing Protestant and he was a non-practicing Catholic. When our two boys were little, we had them baptized Catholic, and soon after, my husband wanted to return to the Church. I agreed that we should all attend Mass as a family.
I wonder if God sings with joy when these things happen.
My father-in-law and I became very close. He used to joke that I would be perfect if only I was Catholic. When he passed away, we were devastated. We missed him so much. My decision to convert came soon after he died. To this day I believe he had something to do with it.
Looking back, I can see that there were many other important decisions that I have made in my life.
Quitting my nursing career to become parish secretary at our Catholic parish. I worked there for 27 years.
Going to school to become a spiritual director. And 21 years later, I am still a spiritual director.
Giving witness to my conversion and sharing my newfound faith.
Sharing my story of being a survivor of child sexual abuse and giving witness of God’s healing love.
There was a time when I thought I made all of these decisions by myself.
Now I know better.
I have never been alone.
The Advocate has been with me all the way.
Ponder:
Looking back, how do I see the Holy Spirit working in my life?
Pray:
Lord, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to guide us. Help us to witness to Your presence in our lives and our world.
