Today's Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12
As soon as we recognize that Jesus is present – clearly know in our hearts, and not just in our head -- we run with all our failings to Him for help.
We cry in desperation to be released from an addiction we cannot manage, from a sin we cannot overcome, from a harm we cannot forgive, or from the failing of generosity for those emotionally in need.
The weakness in us may be one we have become so familiar with that we do not want all of it gone, wanting just a little of its unhealthy comfort to remain. We may fear not knowing what will come with displacement of that comfortable sin.
Yet we know we want –need – to be different and cry out all the more in our weaknesses for help.
Ponder:
What harm have I done to myself because of a recurring sin? What sins has that sin engendered?
Pray:
Merciful Father, help me to embrace the change You desire in me. Let me not fear a future without an addiction to my sin and embrace the goodness and mercy You offer beyond what is familiar.
