Today's Gospel: Mark 5:38-42

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is teaching us to reject the notions of revenge and retaliation. When we look at this verse, Jesus challenges a way of thinking that is still true for a lot of people today. Many believe that you are entitled to seek revenge when you are wronged. But when we choose to follow Jesus, He calls us to be different.

Of course, Jesus doesn’t approve of the wrong actions of the other person and His heart breaks when we have been hurt by another. However, instead of fighting fire with fire, Jesus is commissioning us to do something that will really catch the person off guard—pray for them. As mothers, modeling this level of self-control for our children will create not only strong children but strong Christians.

Ponder:

Where in my life do I seek revenge?

Pray:

Dear Lord, I desire to be more like You daily. I pray that You will help to remove my thoughts for revenge. Grant me the strength to forgive and pray for those who have wronged me.
