Today's Gospel: Luke 6:1-15

There are over 100 names and titles that refer to Jesus in the Bible. “The Prince of Peace,” “The Good Shepherd,” “Immanuel,” “Light of the World,” and “The King of Kings,” to name a few. In today’s Gospel, Jesus refers to himself as “The Son of Man.” In the Gospels, “Christ” was the most popular title that people used to describe Jesus. But Jesus rarely referred to himself in that way and would use “The Son of Man” instead. One of the earliest references to this phrase is in the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament where Daniel has a vision where he sees “one like a son of man” who appears physically human yet “coming with the clouds of heaven.” Daniel’s vision is clearly one of the many verses in the Old Testament that prophesizes Jesus. When Jesus calls himself “The Son of Man,” especially in front of the disciples, it reminds them that He is human like them but also the coming Messiah.

Ponder:

Jesus is known by many names and titles. How would you answer Jesus’ question to the disciples in the Book of Luke: “Who do you say that I am?”

Pray:

Dear Lord, I am thankful that I get to call You not only my savior but my friend. Help me to seek You and learn more about You through Your Word daily.
