Discover the call to resist conformity and embrace a unique relationship with God, encouraging deeper faith and authentic living in daily life.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 6:7-15

Do not be like them!

As a mother, I’ve often found myself telling my children those exact words when I disapproved of something they were doing. And without fail, the reply would come: “But everyone else is doing it!”

My response was always the same: Why would you want to do something you know is wrong? Why imitate behavior just to fit in with the crowd?

One day, though, I received an answer that stopped me: “Because, Mom, it’s easier to fit in than to be different.”

The reward, my child explained, was simple—belonging. Fitting in meant avoiding mockery, rejection, or exclusion.
And yet, that is exactly what Jesus warns us against. He tells us clearly: do not conform.

“Do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words.”

Why? Because their reward is immediate. They are accepted by the crowd. They escape ridicule. They may even be admired.

But the Christian path—the Catholic path—is different. As parents, our calling is to prepare our children for that harder road: the road of Christ. A road that can be lonely at times, but always leads to truth.

We must teach them, as Jesus did, to carve out quiet moments with God in the midst of their busy lives: in the library, at their desk, on the bus, or staring out the car window. God does not measure us by how we perform in front of others. He looks only at our hearts. And He knows—nothing is hidden from Him.

St. Carlo Acutis put it beautifully: “All people are born as originals, but many die as photocopies.”

The applause of the world is fleeting. But pleasing God—that lasts forever. And when we choose Him over the crowd, we finally become who we were created to be.

Ponder:

How often during the day do you go along with others just because it is easier?  How often do you choose God over the crowd?

Pray:

Lord, help me to listen to Your Word deep within my heart and to act on it in a way that gives glory to You. I love You, and only want to please You.

Pray Together:

Begin or end each day with family prayer and discuss how you acted as Christ to a person in need. Give tangible examples on how to do God's work each and every day.
