Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 10:7-15

"Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

Now that we have adult children, I do not take the times we get to be all together for granted. As the boys play games and joke around, the sound of laughter fills the house, and my heart overflows with joy. Some might say that we are enjoying the fruit of our labor, as the older ones still want to come back and spend time with us. And even though this is partly true, the truth is that it is all grace. The only reason we have any love to give at all is that we were loved first.

The same is true for the offerings we bring to the Eucharistic table. “Blessed are you, Lord of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. . . . Blessed be God forever.” The only reason we have any offerings to bring to the altar is that they were given to us first. These gifts we are given are meant to build up the kingdom of God. Even the gifts we receive for our own edification strengthen the Body of Christ.

Recently, I was reflecting on the “Retreat Notes” from St. Peter Julian Eymard. He is the founder of the Lay Associates of the Blessed Sacrament, which I am a part of. I was overwhelmed by the realization that the graces he received on that retreat were now overflowing to me, helping me look deeper into my soul. It is this gratitude that compels me to give of myself, of my time, and write. Gifts received must flow through if they are to be a source of life.

Ponder:

Think today of something you are finding hard to give, to share; it may be your time. Ponder on the gift you received. Maybe you can begin by giving thanks.

Pray:

Lord, help us to be open to receiving every grace that overflows to us, and that, rooted in the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, we may trust in Your goodness and freely give it all.
