Today's Gospel: Matthew 9:32-38
Parenting is both a blessing and exhausting. Every stage of a child’s life brings new demands on a parent’s time — caring for their needs, nurturing their hearts, guiding their education, and fostering their spiritual growth. Making time for even one more thing can feel daunting, maybe even impossible. Yet, I feel challenged by the final words of today’s Gospel that the vineyard is in need of workers. As I read this, I thought of my abundance of blessings and the words from Luke’s Gospel, “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much.”
No matter how full our calendars may be, there’s one thing we cannot neglect—serving in the Kingdom of God. We are called to “go and make disciples,” to follow Christ’s model of humble service, and to play our small but meaningful part in building and tending the tiny parcel of the vineyard in which God has placed us. Whether that means teaching a child to pray, becoming a catechist, offering a kind word to a struggling friend, bringing the Eucharist to the homebound, or simply living joyfully as a witness of faith, each act of love tends the vineyard. Our small sacrifices and humble offerings of time, talent, and treasure flourish when nourished by the grace of God.
As a family, when we serve together, the work feels lighter. What once felt like “one more thing” becomes an opportunity to grow closer — to God and to one another. Even the smallest family member has something to offer in furthering the Kingdom and watering the vineyard.
The laborers may be few, but when we open our hearts and allow ourselves to be counted among them, God can bring forth an abundant harvest — perhaps even a bumper crop — from our willingness to serve with love and faith.
Ponder:
Ask the Lord how you may best serve the Church, individually and as a family.
Pray:
Lord, help me to see where You are calling me to serve in Your vineyard today, and give me the grace to respond with joy and love. May our family’s small acts of faith bear abundant fruit for Your Kingdom.
Pray Together:
Choose one simple act of service you can do as a family this week, something that helps your “vineyard” grow in love. It could be writing notes of encouragement to parish volunteers, baking cookies for a neighbor, visiting someone who’s lonely, or cleaning up a local park together.
