Today's Gospel: Luke 10:38-42
“Tell her to help me.”
Martha feels so comfortable with Jesus that she actually tells Him what to do! Can you imagine?
Actually, I can. I think that in many of my prayers I may do the same thing. I tell Jesus how I want Him to answer my prayers.
Why do I do that? I suppose for the same reason that Martha does. Anxiety. I am worried about the way a situation is going or how a person is behaving. I am concerned about what a friend or family member is going through. And I believe I know what they need to solve their problem. So, I tell Jesus what to do!
Then, when I shut up and am quiet, I hear His response:
“You are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing.”
What is that one thing? Why, Jesus Himself is the only thing we need. He is God. With Him all things are possible. In His time, in His way, Jesus will take care of everything. If we trust Him, then we need not worry.
Ponder:
What things are you anxious and worried about that you need to entrust to Jesus?
Pray:
Dear Lord Jesus, as I pray today, quiet the Martha in me and make me more like Mary. I choose You, the better part. Do not let me allow You to be taken from me.
