Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:24-30

Today happens to be my patron saint’s feast day, as my middle name is Anne. What an incredible woman! She was childless for so long and then God blessed her prayerful patience in abundance. Since patience is one of the virtues I struggle with the most, it helps to reflect on her fidelity to God despite decades of suffering from infertility. We can learn so much from this great saint who held both the Virgin Mary and the Baby Jesus in her arms.

In today’s Gospel we hear,

“When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.”

This reminds us of our world today, where good and evil walk side by side, where those who strive for sanctity work alongside those who strive to tear them down.

While all of us may have the desire to be good, our decisions and actions throughout the day must be consistent with that, otherwise that desire will not bear fruit. We must choose to use our free will for the good of God and others in order to become saints.

May we ask God for an outpouring of grace, that we may be ever more determined to follow in the footsteps of the saints and one day obtain our heavenly reward.

Ponder:

Which one will you choose to be, dear sister? The weeds or the wheat? The saint or the sinner?

Pray:

Dear Lord, grant us an outpouring of grace, that we may be ever more determined to follow in the footsteps of the saints.
