Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:31-35
Have you ever baked bread? I used to bake bread frequently when my kids were younger. It was always amazing to see what happened when less than a tablespoon of yeast was added to a bowl of flour. After warm water was mixed in, a very large bowl would be needed to hold the dough as it rose.
Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of God is like that yeast. When yeast is added to a batch of bread dough, it leavens it, causing it to grow in size. While the yeast looks tiny at first glance, its effect on the dough is impressive.
That's what the Kingdom of God is like. Jesus came from humble beginnings, and His ministry reached a relatively small number of people. Yet its effect has reached to the furthest points of the globe as the Good News was shared throughout the whole world!
Ponder:
Our humble efforts on behalf of God's Kingdom can make a big difference. Are your ears open to hearing God's call for you? How can you leaven your own corner of the Kingdom of God?
Pray:
Jesus, help me to be open to serving Your Kingdom in whatever ways I am called today.
