Today's Gospel: Luke 12:13-21
As a mother of nine, it is hard for me to imagine having an abundance of anything to be able to store. Even after grocery shopping and filling the refrigerator and pantry, the goods are too quickly gone!
Then I realize that there is an abundance in my home – an abundance of love, joy, mercy, sacrifice, and generosity. These are the treasures that our Lord wants us to store up for heaven.
God wants us to live an abundant life. But when we live for earthly pleasure and gain, we are living below our dignity. Earthly treasures are temporal; God created us for eternal happiness. The pleasures of this world cannot give us that, for they are here today and gone tomorrow.
God’s love for us, though, is never-ending. Our inheritance is infinite. No need to divide it; it is indivisible! So, feel free to be liberal with the treasures God has given you, for they never run out!
Ponder:
Whom shall I share God’s love, mercy, joy, or generosity with today? Who needs a taste of God’s treasure?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunities You will share with me today to store up treasures of virtues. Help me not to get so caught up in temporal things that I miss these heavenly possibilities.
