Today's Gospel: Matthew 23:13-22
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is teaching us about mindfulness and focusing on the things that truly bear importance. We should focus on God’s Word and the teachings of our faith rather than concern ourselves with worldly desires and sitting in judgment of others. I know that in my day-to-day goings on, I have a difficult time prioritizing things and become easily overwhelmed. My focus is on checking as many things off my to-do list as possible, rather than evaluating which items need my attention in a more meaningful way. If I think about where I can do the most good for others, I can approach my to-do list with more intentionality and thus have more profound results and interactions.
I recently decided to let all of my conversations, no matter how short or practical, be guided by the principle of being a light to others, rather than detracting from their day in some way. It can be easy to lose sight of this in the midst of challenging or stressful times, but it is more important than ever during those moments. Are we being mindful of our words and actions, both big and small? In this way, we can not only brighten the lives of others, but cultivate peace and happiness within ourselves.
Ponder:
What is one way in which I can be more mindful in my day-to-day interactions with others?
Pray:
Lord, please guide my words and actions throughout this day. Let me be a light to others and let Your Word shine a light into my heart.
