Daily Gospel Reflection for September 8, 2026

Reflect on the significance of Our Lady's nativity and the power of obedience and trust in God's will through the examples of Mary and St. Joseph.

Today's Gospel: Mathew 1:1-16, 18-23

Today, we celebrate Our Lady’s nativity. Usually on this day, I like to have some flowers for her at my home altar.

It’s wonderful to know that God chose her to be the mother of Our Lord. She was given this wonderful mission because of her humility and purity.

She had two wonderful, saintly parents, whom she obeyed, and she is a wonderful witness to humble trust and obedience, especially in today's world, in which it's sometimes very difficult to trust because of all the bad things that happen.

Obedience is sometimes seen in a negative way. It sounds like an old term from old times that doesn’t fit into a culture that seems to glorify disobedience.

Can you imagine if Mary would not have accepted this mission? And what if St. Joseph wouldn’t have listened to the angel in his dream?

Reflecting on this passage helps me to be more aware of God’s voice. It also reminds me that even if I don’t understand God’s will and my humanness feels uncomfortable, I need to say yes and follow the path He has made for me.

Our yes has consequences not only for us but for those around us. On Mary’s nativity, we should celebrate her life and what a wonderful witness she is for us in trusting the Lord selflessly.

What if Mother Mary hadn't said yes?

Pray:

Lord, please help me to do Your will, even when it's not easy.

Pray Together:

Visit a Mary statue to pray or place flowers there some time this month.
