Today's Gospel: Luke 6:39-42
Within our day-to-day lives, it is easy to become self-absorbed in a way that alienates us from others and from God. We concern ourselves with judging what others are doing rather than focusing on bettering ourselves in a way that is pleasing to God. When we focus on what we perceive as the misdeeds happening around us, we miss the opportunity to look within for an opportunity to grow in wisdom and strength of character.
I know that I often neglect looking within myself as a type of defense mechanism – if I’m not examining my own actions, I can go on believing that my thoughts and behaviors are beyond reproach, yes? We delude ourselves with this kind of thinking, but it is very easy to fall into this mindset. Whenever we find ourselves thinking more about the actions of others rather than ourselves, we should resolve to ask God a question: “Lord, how can I be a light to others today?” In this way, we train ourselves not only to remain vigilant on following our faith in our thoughts and actions, but we call God to mind and listen for His voice during these important moments. Growing in holiness throughout our lives and bringing the solace of Christ to others in our words and deeds can be the daily activities that we cultivate, rather than sowing unhappy judgment.
Ponder:
Lord, how can I be a light to others today in my thoughts, in my words, and in my deeds?
Pray:
Lord, help me to focus on how I can grow stronger in my faith and in my relationship with You. May I continue to grow in holiness throughout my life, until the end of my days.
