Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 6:43-49

What kind of store is in my heart? I know I am a sinner, so there may be both good and evil in my heart. We cannot measure the store of goodness in our hearts, can we? But we can see what kind of fruit is being produced. When we see rotten fruit, we know we must work on increasing the store of good within us. We can go to Confession, receive the Eucharist, take some time to read Scripture. There are so many avenues of grace available to us. And then there are the days when the goodness of the fruit is so evident. God’s love is flowing. Our hearts feel soft, and we can see the effect on others, especially on our families.

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but not do what I command?”

It’s terrifying to think that we might be one of these people. Our faith must be built on a firm foundation, a foundation of solid belief and sincere love of God and others. We must constantly work to keep it strong by attending Mass on Sundays and holy days, even more often if possible. We must frequent the sacraments, going to Confession and receiving the Eucharist regularly. And then there is prayer. How can we know what the Lord wants us to do in specific circumstances unless we talk to Him and listen to His responses? Scripture reading, too, can  lead us to an understanding of what God is commanding.

The floods will come. The river will burst upon our homes. This is life. There are challenges, and we must always be prepared with a foundation that will not collapse and will not be destroyed.

Ponder:

What specific actions can I take to build the store of goodness in my heart?

Pray:

O Lord, please help us to build houses with firm foundations that will withstand the onslaught of the world, the flesh, and the devil. Keep us true to You.
