Today's Gospel: Mark 7:31-35
Today, we celebrate the life of mystic Saint Joseph of Cupertino, who was most famous for his ability to fly.
But did you know that this saint was probably dyslexic and, by today’s labels, had ADD?
He was a frustrated child in this world, angry, detached, and unable to stay focused on the tasks at hand. And yet he was exceptionally spiritually gifted.
When he realized his spiritual gift, he began studies for the priesthood but couldn’t pass his exams though he knew the Church teachings well. An examiner recognized his inability to read and take the tests, even though Joseph was filled with divine insight. When the examiner asked him the questions on the exams, the future saint brilliantly answered them all – and passed.
Ponder:
Who do you know that struggles with dyslexia or ADD/ADHD? How do you react towards them? Would they benefit by your sharing this story of Saint Joseph of Cupertino?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, help me to see the strengths in those whose struggles are different from mine. Guide me in ways to help them spiritually and to recognize their gifts.
