Today's Gospel: Luke 16:1-13
My father loved to write songs. He would pour his heart and soul into lyrics and melodies, expressing the feelings of his soul. But he also wrote to entertain others. When I was a toddler, he wrote a song called “Randy the Lil' Elf.” It was about an elf whose dream it was to deliver toys with Santa on Christmas Eve night.
At one point, my father hoped to market the song, so he commissioned an artist to create an image of Randy. That image is now on display in my home. As the first-born child, I am the keeper of Randy and the guardian of my father’s legacy.
I would like to think that I am striving to be a good steward of Randy and what he represents: goodness, hope, and childhood wonder. I believe that the care I show toward that image of Randy reflects the reverence I have for my father’s memory.
God has entrusted a great gift to us in the form of our faith. It is not something we earn, but something that is freely shared with us. We must be prudent in the manner in which we exercise our faith.
We also need to recognize the fact that our ultimate goal should be serving God. In a world that seems to be increasingly secular, this can be a profound challenge, but the best way to spread the Gospel is to live it out each and every day.
In our faith, we possess the pearl of great price, but it is not something we should bury in the backyard. We need to hold it up for all the world to see. The Lord has entrusted so much to us. May we be vigilant in caring for all that God has given to us.
Ponder:
What are some ways that we can be good stewards of our faith this week?
Pray:
God, in giving me faith, You have also entrusted me with great hope. Please help me to share that hope with others who cross my path.
