Today's Gospel: Luke 8:1-3

This Gospel passage is perfect for Catholic Mom readers, since it gives fitting credit to the women who accompanied Jesus as He traveled from town to town, teaching the Gospel of the New Covenant and curing the ill and the broken. These women served Jesus and His disciples and also provided essential financial support for their needs.

The women themselves brought along their own witness to the love, mercy, and power of Christ. By recognizing their innumerable gifts and dignity, Jesus was going against the grain of His society’s view of women. Just welcoming them to His traveling group painted a very different picture of how things should be. He presented these members of the group as kind, hardworking, charitable, and even more importantly, worthy of great respect. I’m sure that tongues were wagging, considering the ragtag group following Jesus.

St. Jose Maria Escriva says, "Women are called to bring to the family, to society, and to the Church, characteristics which are uniquely feminine, which they alone can give – their gentle warmth, untiring generosity, their love for detail, their quick-wittedness and intuition, their simple and deep piety, their constancy." (Conversations, 14)

I hope that is what you find on the pages of Catholic Mom -- many women writers (and some Godly men writing for us, too!) helping each of you to find your place in the Church by drawing you into our community of support especially for Catholic moms! This is your place to grow in faith, recognize your own gifts and talents, and gain understanding of your great dignity and worth!

Ponder:

Am I truly aware of my worth as a woman, and do I use the particular gifts that God has given me to serve the people He has placed in my life?

Pray:

King of Mercy, help me to embrace my uniquely feminine gifts and my God-given nobleness, as I daily offer my gifts to You, to use as You see fit.
