Discover encouragement for teachers and parents in today's Gospel, and learn how to labor together in Christ's vineyard with love and support.

Today's Gospel: Luke 10:1-12

This Gospel is for all of the teachers and educators (this includes all parents, too!) of the Catholic faith. Whether you are teaching in a classroom or in the home, you can look to this passage for encouragement and support. As a teacher of the faith in the home and as a parish catechist, the following line from this passage always encourages me:

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”

The harvest of souls we can win for Christ is so, so abundant, yet there never seem to be enough hands to run the homeschool activities, teach in the classrooms, or volunteer with the youth. And yet, you are there showing up in your home and your community. God is giving you the grace to “multiply the loaves” of your time, talents, and treasures.

Today, we also celebrate the Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. She is known for her “Little Way” to heaven. In Story of a Soul, she writes, “You know well enough that Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them.” Let us follow St. Thérèse’s example in how we labor for the Kingdom by doing small deeds with great love.

Lastly, remember that you are not alone in the vineyard. This Gospel passage reminds us that Jesus also sent His laborers in pairs. When you feel stretched thin, send a text to that other mom who can relate to your struggles. Send a thank you note to your team of parish volunteers. Carry on, faithful servant! The harvest is abundant, and the reward will be eternal.

Ponder:

How can we encourage a family or friend to join us by sharing their time and talents as a fellow laborer in the vineyard of Christ’s Church?

Pray:

Jesus, please show our family how we can be faithful laborers in your vineyard, and please send us more strong, faithful laborers for Your harvest.

Pray Together:

Discuss as a family how you can help out at your parish or in your community. This month, either volunteer for a ministry in your parish or find a charitable organization (soup kitchen, food pantry, St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop, or Life Center) to volunteer at together.
