Today's Gospel: Luke 10:1-12

“You look like you are on a mission!” It’s a greeting I used to hear from my former boss all the time. It meant that I was walking with purpose, my demeanor indicating that I meant business. He was right. I am fortunate to work for a cause I feel passionate about, and I approach each day as another opportunity to serve my fellow man and woman.

You have a mission, too! I do not know the exact nature of your mission—only God knows. But it is specific to you and your calling as a child of the Almighty.

Still, each of us is called to evangelize. “Evangelize” can be a daunting word. But it simply means sharing the faith with others—and, if necessary, using words to do so. It could be as simple as letting your hair stylist know what you learned during a homily that week. Or it could be reading a Bible story to your toddler. Or maybe it means donating to your local food bank and letting the management know you do so in the name of Christ.

This Gospel reading also brings to mind the importance of praying for vocations to the priesthood. A great need exists in our Church for men to respond to God’s calling and to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders. We need good, Christlike men to labor in the vineyards for the sake of the Gospel message.

If you have an Adoration chapel near your home, or if Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is offered in your church, consider devoting a holy hour to the intention of vocations to the priesthood. Such holy hours have been known to produce great spiritual fruit and have been credited with helping men find their calling.

Ponder:

What can I do this week to share the Gospel message with others?

Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to discover my mission on this earth and to live it out in the manner You’ve dreamed of. May I be an effective ambassador for the Gospel.
