Today's Gospel: Luke 10:38-42
As a mother of eight children, it is easy to get caught up in all that needs to be done and what I should be doing.
Like Martha, I would become agitated if I was left alone to complete the tasks before me, feeling the weight and the burden of completing them alone.
Practicing mental prayer has become essential for recognizing which tasks I must complete now and which can wait.
Through mental prayer, I have recognized that nothing is more important than my time with Jesus. I am learning to prioritize my relationship with Jesus before tackling daily tasks. Nothing is more urgent or essential than establishing a more authentic relationship with Him. Sitting quietly at His feet and allowing Him to pour His love upon me strengthens me and prepares me for the day ahead. This time with Jesus has deepened my relationship with Him and healed many relational wounds.
Through the practice of mental prayer, I have learned to trust Jesus more, to lean into Him, and to turn up exactly as I am: vulnerable, anxious, tired, and a mess. The masks I have tried to hide behind have been removed, and the wall I had built has been knocked down, allowing Jesus to look down upon me during our time together. I allow Jesus to see me and know me as His beloved daughter. As I become more vulnerable, I come to know Jesus more intimately, as my vulnerabilities and trust in Him make more room in my life for Him.
Ponder:
Have you established a daily routine of mental prayer? If not, what is holding you back?
Pray:
Lord, help me to be more like Mary and less like Martha. Help me to let go of daily distractions, sit silently at Your feet, turn up as I am, and rest in Your presence.
