Today's Gospel: Luke 11:27-28
Let’s get this out of the way, especially in the month of the Rosary: Mary is our Blessed Mother and we honor her. Yes, she is blessed. Jesus is not denying that. Rather, He is emphasizing what’s most important, that is, following the Word of God.
Mary doesn’t call us to follow her; she calls us to listen to her Son (John 2:5). She says this in every apparition and begs those who hear her to do what Jesus tells them. Shouldn’t that make following the Word of God the most important thing?
We get caught up in the details of life. Clothes we wear, colors for decorating, times for events, etc. They can all be important and meaningful, but they mean nothing if we’re not first attending to the Word of God. We must first hear God’s Word through Scripture, Mass, or even silent prayer. Then, we must observe it through our choices, our words, and our actions.
When we put God’s Word first, goodness will follow because the Word does not return empty (Isaiah 55:11). So, let’s put the Word of God first—Jesus first—and not lose ourselves in worry, but let all other things follow.
Ponder:
Am I putting God’s Word before all else in my life?
Pray:
Lord, help me to put Your Word first and trust that You will take care of the rest. Don't let me worry but help me to keep my eyes on You.
