Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 12:35-38

Jesus is coming; look busy! Is that the message of today’s Gospel? It’s a bit deeper than that. We can be busy with the good and holy things, or we can be busy with activities that fill our days but do not lead us to holiness.

Am I telling you that the dirty diapers, endless spills, and calls for help can lead you to holiness? I am. So can taking care of elderly parents. Does going beyond for your employer or helping your co-workers help? Absolutely.

We each have a primary vocation. In other words, it's the first priority in our lives that we are tasked to care for. The flow of our vocation is this: God, spouse, family, work, ministry. Many of us are wives and mothers, work in various professions, and care for extended family. We might do this all simultaneously or at different times as our life circumstances change.

This is why we cannot let our desire to do good things come before doing the best things. Praying in Adoration or leading a ministry are beautiful ways to serve unless they are put before God, spouse, or family. There is time for all we want to do, but it might mean we do things one at a time, rather than all at the same time.

Whatever your primary vocation is, that is one of the main places you will grow in holiness. Where, as the servants in today's Gospel, you will show the Lord that you are prepared to do what is in front of you. Then you will be called blessed!

Ponder:

Do I think or feel I am not doing enough to grow in holiness? Could I lean into my current life more fully rather than add more things to my “to-be holy” list?

Pray:

Lord, You have called me to a life full of opportunities to grow in holiness. Help me to choose wisely so that all I do is for Your glory.
