Reflect on the call to deeper discipleship in today's Gospel. Explore how to serve others with love and align with God's plan for your life.
Today's Gospel: Luke 12:39-48
Today’s Gospel starts with the Lord speaking to the need to be alert and prepared for we do not know the day or the hour that the Lord will return.
Jesus challenges His disciples to go deeper than mere readiness. He challenges them to live according to His expectations of true discipleship. Those who know Him will be held to a higher standard than those ignorant of the Word made Flesh - the teachings of Jesus Christ.
It can seem a bit unfair, right? We do our charitable work, we pray, we go to Mass on Sunday – surely that is enough? Yet Jesus shows us by His life that it is not enough simply to do what is expected of us - we must submit to His will in our lives.
God expects us to serve – always. And the core of that service is love. Love others as He loves us, unconditionally and without reservation. This seems impossible, but we know with God’s grace, nothing is impossible.
Ponder:
Ask God to reveal to you today whom He is calling you to love and serve even though it may be difficult to do so.
Pray:
Lord, please reveal to me how I can better serve you in my home, at work and in my community. Help me, Jesus, to fully surrender to God's plan for my life.
Pray Together:
Find a way to serve someone in need. Do you have an elderly neighbor or a nearby food pantry that needs assistance? Let your actions demonstrate your faith.
