Today's Gospel: Luke 12:35-38
Parents spend their time waiting. Many times over the twenty-five years before all of mine were either at college or on their own, waiting just came with the territory. In fact, my mother used to say, “You think raising little ones is difficult? Wait until they become teenagers. You haven’t experienced hard until you tell them to be home at a certain time and then spend the evening watching the clock slowly creep into the wee hours, listening for the sound of their car.”
Even though parents now have cell phones, tracking device apps, and texting, the waiting and worrying is still the same.
My children had to be ready with answers when coming home after curfew. Explain yourself! What have you been up to? Could you not check in during all this time? Do you have any idea how worried we were?
In much the same way, we, as God's children, need to be ready when He wants us home. We need to be able to explain ourselves, answer for our actions. Did we take the time during our lives to check in with Him daily? When we walk in His doorway, will we do so confident that we kept His rules? We need to always be on our guard lest He wants us "home" earlier than we want to be.
God already knows our curfew, when He will call us home. There is no bargaining to stay just a bit longer. And, just as we expect our children to listen, to prepare for when they need to come home, so must we be ready.
Plan your life, your time here, accordingly. Prepare and pray.
Ponder:
If God called me home today, would I be ready to answer for my actions?
Pray:
Lord, help me grow and become the person You made me to be. Help me to always keep Your words and Your will front and center.
