Reflect on your priorities and God's invitations in daily life. Discover how placing the Eucharist at the center brings peace and integration to your family.

Today's Gospel: Luke 14:15-24

“Go out to the highways and hedgerows and make people come in that my home may be filled.” Luke 14:23

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the story of a man who invited many guests to a great dinner. One by one, they declined the invitation; each had something they considered more important, more pressing, more immediate. So focused were they on passing concerns that they missed their only chance to accept a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A purchased field, five yoke of oxen, even a new marriage—these are all significant. Yet we are called to hold them in proper order. We must often re-examine our priorities.

As a Catholic parent, I often feel the tension between what my family needs today and the care of their souls. I might read books and articles offering strategies that don’t quite fit our reality and end up in a worse place than where I started. The conflict only truly resolves when I let God be God—when I stop trying to control everything and remember that He loves me and my family and desires only goodness for us. He does not ask the impossible, but He does command us to love Him above all things.

Families are pulled in so many directions these days. Whether it’s the kids’ school, sports, family, or friends, countless things compete for our time and attention. If we place them all on the same level of priority, they will pull outward—each toward its own agenda—and we risk being dismembered. But when we place the Eucharist at the center of our lives and allow everything else to fall into its proper orbit, we begin to experience integration and peace. Most of us can attend Mass on Sundays. If we are able, this is the place we must begin.

Ponder:

What invitations from God have I overlooked because something else felt more urgent at the time?

Pray:

Lord, help our family hear Your invitation and respond with joyful hearts. Teach us to place You first, so that our home may be filled with Your peace.

Pray Together:

Set aside a few minutes after Sunday Mass to pray together as a family, thanking Jesus for the gift of the Eucharist and asking Him to help you live the week in response to His invitation.
