Today's Gospel: Luke 21:12-19

In the Gospel reading for today, Jesus tells His apostles that they will be hated by all because of His name.

Have you ever felt hated or been ostracized—either to your face or on social media—because of your faith?

Have you ever felt hesitant or embarrassed to defend your faith?

Christ told His apostles, just as He tells us, that following Him won’t be easy. But He promises that the reward will be great.

God created us to know, love, and serve Him. We have all heard the story of Adam and Eve’s sin. But do we really understand that the only one who could make up for that sin was God Himself?

He understood that, and so He sent His Son to die for us.

He asks only that we follow His commands, love Him, and treat others as He would. It sounds easy, but it’s often very difficult. And in today’s increasingly secular world where people with a deep faith are shunned, mocked, or even physically assaulted, it can be tempting to be quiet and adopt the belief that faith should be a private thing.

But faith is never a private thing.

As the apostles felt before Pentecost, we too might feel scared. But remember the day of your confirmation. The Holy Spirit came upon you just as He came upon the apostles. He gave them courage, and He gave you courage. It’s in you. It’s in me.

So let us summon that courage as we remember Christ’s words from today’s Gospel. People may hate us, but that doesn’t matter. Eternity with God is what matters. And when we proudly live and teach our faith, our reward will be great.

Ponder:

How will you live your faith today?

Pray:

Dear Lord, please help me live my faith proudly. Guide me as I speak for You and show my love for You in my actions.
