Today's Gospel: Luke 1:26-38
Like millions of others, I listened to Ascension’s Bible in a Year podcast, which changed my life. I grew up reading the Bible: I am not a scholar, but it was familiar. I could flip to scripture and verse before the priest started reading. But in actuality, I knew so little. Listening to Father Mike read the Bible and studying how the New and Old Testaments align, my knowledge of and love for the Bible grew daily. And even with the familiar verses, it was like hearing them for the first time.
These verses in Luke are one of those passages. I’ve heard it hundreds of times from the pulpit, and Mary’s fiat is a cornerstone of our Catholic faith. But when I read it to prepare for this reflection, I was in tears.
“May it be done to me according to your word.”
A powerful, incredible example of faith. I am overwhelmed thinking about it and so profoundly grateful. Grateful for Mary’s yes and her perfect example of motherhood.
“For nothing will be impossible for God.”
Ponder:
How are we being called to answer Yes in our lives? Are we able to answer without hesitation?
Pray:
Dear God, thank You for choosing Mary to be the mother of our Lord. May we look to her example when called to do the impossible.
