CatholicMom-booknotes-logo It's not as hot as it should be this time of year, but here's proof that we don't need heat to have the "dog days of summer" in early August:

Theology of the Body for Every Body, by Leah Perrault (Novalis, 2012) -

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I read this on Jen Fitz's recommendation and what a book! It's an easy read, and yet it plumbs the depths of Theology of the Body, applying it in ways I found refreshing and enlightening. Truly a book worth reading, studying, and sharing.

Current Reads

The Spear, by Louis de Wohl (fiction, Ignatius Press, 1998)

My fiction book club picked this book for our early September meeting, and when I saw that it's almost as thick as the Catechism, I figured I'd better start reading it. De Wohl is considered one of those "classic Catholic writers," and am I ever seeing why! I'm considering cloistering myself in the bathroom for a few weeks while I finish it...

Under the Mantle: Marian Thoughts from a 21st Century Priest, by Donald H. Calloway, MIC (Marian Press, 2013)

I'll admit it: I bought this book in part because of the cover:

What's not to love about a good-looking priest, Our Lady of Guadalupe (who's my special Mary), and a surfboard? I'm two chapters in as I write this, and I'm enjoying it so far. It hasn't rocked my world...yet. I have high hopes. (Maybe it's the sunglasses.)
