Book Talk, Canning Edition

Well, yes, it is NOT Tuesday, is it? We did a little switch-a-roo, which isn't such a bad thing every so often.

It's pure fall here, as combines hum in the background and the leaves start dancing their rainbow selves to the ground. And fall means CANNING.

In the last week, I've filled my cupboards with some of our favorites: grape jelly and tomato sauce. Now that I have myself drooling, let's talk books.

Emily Post's Manners in a Digital World: Living Well Online, by Daniel Post Senning (Open Road E-riginal, 2013)

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

A lot about manners is common sense. And...am I the only one who's noticed that common sense is not so common these days?

This book is a guidebook that I will be referencing and using with the young people in my life. And did I mention that I learned quite a bit (maybe it's just as fair to say that I had suspicions confirmed)?

It's well-written, well-researched, and well-done. Highly recommended.

Current Reads

Just Married: The Catholic Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the First Five Years of Marriage, by Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak (Ave Maria Press, 2013)

So far, not a bad read. I wasn't going to mark it up, planning to maybe share it. And then...then I just couldn't help myself. (In my defense, that's sometimes helpful for review writing for those of us with bad memories.) I'm pretty early in reading it, so we'll see if it holds true to what I expect it to be.

Mind Over Psyche, by Karina Fabian (fiction, Dragon Moon Press, 2013)

Oh, oh, ohhhhhh. I sooooooo want to hole myself up and just! read! this! book! Yes, it's as good as I thought it would be. Seriously.

True or False Possession? How to Distinguish the Demonic from the Demented, by Jean Lhermitte (Sophia Institute Press, 2013)

This is strangely fascinating. It's something I wouldn't have picked up on my own, but you know, I appreciate having that every so often. Talk about a whole arena of things I had NO IDEA about! This book is firmly in that category.

How and When to Tell Your Kids about Sex: A Lifelong Approach to Shaping Your Child's Sexual Character (God's Design for Sex), by Brenna and Stan Jones (NavPress, 2007)

I am trying to read one chapter a week. Pitiful, on the one hand, but on the other: do you see this list? Yeah. Me too.

Up Next

Well, until I get through a few books on that rather hefty list above, I'm not looking at the Up Next pile. I'm just...not.
