The Institution of the Eucharist {Jesus' Guide to the New Year through the Rosary}

Editor’s Note: This week, we're finishing our journey through the rosary with Jesus as our guide.

Here we are at the final Luminous Mystery and the final mystery in our series of Jesus’ Guide to the New Year through the Rosary.  I hope this journey has taken you to deeper levels of faith and has been an asset to your New Year.

It is perfect that we end this series with the Institution of the Eucharist.

“And He took bread, and when He had given thanks He broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you.’ ... And likewise the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.’" (Luke 22:19-20)

Let us take the Fruit of the Mystery: Adoration and go forward in this year not just with adoration of Christ but also with adoration of one another.  Often it seems to be lost among the ways of the world, our own judgments and beliefs but every person on earth is created in the Image and Likeness of God.  We are called to look upon and treat every person with respect and dignity.

I know this can be challenging.  Sometimes we see everything except the Image of God in a person.  It is exactly at these times we are called to look back on the Fruit of this Mystery and meet the challenge to see the Image of God in this person.  I admit it can be a challenge.  I am still struggling to see the Image of God in some people I have known.  It is hard when their behavior is anything but a reflection of God.  With that said, I am certain there are those who can say, “I did not see the Image of God in you today Lorrie.”  When I write that and read it, it breaks my heart because I know it to be true.

This reflection serves as the perfect reminder as I look in the eyes of someone, searching to find the Image of God.  Perhaps that day, at that moment, He is not present in the person’s actions or words but in the very fact that the person is alive reminds me the he or she is indeed created in the Image of God.

This journey through the New Year through the Rosary has been a time of personal growth and reflection.  Sharing this journey has been both touching and revealing, serving as a beautiful reminder that each of us are created in the Image of God and that each of us are capable of answering God’s call if we are open to the Holy Spirit.
