Tech Talk: Catholic News Service App

Got a minute? You can get the latest Catholic news straight from the Catholic News Service via their newly-released app.

This app is FREE for Android, and it's very easy to use.

The news view doesn't display just a headline, but a headline and lead sentence--enough for you to decide whether further reading is warranted.

When you open an article, you'll find options to share it via social media, email, Dropbox and other social-sharing services.

The majority of the content in this app comes from the CNS Vatican bureau, though you will find stories originating all over the world, including human-interest pieces of a Catholic nature.

Besides news stories, this app features photos, videos, and the CNS Facebook and Twitter streams. Unfortunately, the photos can't be viewed full-screen (at least not on my not-top-of-the-line phone)--and that's a shame, because the thumbnail view can't possibly do some of these photos justice. I'd love it if the photos could be viewed on a larger scale and also shared: that's a great evangelization tool.

Clicking on a video will send the user out of the app and into YouTube, where the Catholic News Service has its own channel.

The Catholic News Service has been the leading source of Catholic world news for almost 100 years. It was founded by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1920 as a means of getting accurate Catholic news stories into the secular press.
