CM Daily Gospel Reflections 720x340 Option 2

Today's Gospel: Luke 11:29-32

Jonah is the reluctant prophet who is thrust upon Nineveh and made memorable to us. In today's Gospel, Jesus offers equally stern words to all would-be prophets and critics. We typically think of prophets as those who tell truth to power. Yet, we forget the ultimate power that comes from a close relationship with God that inspires the prophet to speak the truth. It is this power and truth that leads the reluctant to hear wisdom and to change their ways because "there is something greater than Jonah here."

Ponder:

Are we expecting something more dramatic as proof or product of our relationship with God? Have these signs proved to be a let-down or yet another example of how God's ways are not ours?

Pray:

Lord, for many seeing is believing.
Yet blessed are they who have not seen, but still believe.
Make us instead Seers of Wisdom,
Believers in your loving actions
So that your Presence here and now
And our remembrance of all that you do
Makes ever clearer your Sign and Covenant with us.
