Today's Gospel: John 3:14-21

Today’s Gospel speaks directly to my heart, particularly the following part of the Scripture: “For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.” This speaks to me today as a reminder that as I go throughout my life and daily decisions, I am called to remember that whatever I do cannot be hidden. I am not saying go out and do good for recognition, but remember that our deeds, whether done in secret or not, are known.

It can be really easy to disregard the fact that we cannot hide anything from God. We can hide it from our families and friends, even at times from ourselves, but nothing we ever do or think is hidden from God. With this awareness I move forward, with the knowledge of my need of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Although I repeatedly fail, you offer me confidence that my faults are forgiven and that I can make better decisions in the future.

Ponder:

Is my behavior consistent? Do I offer the best of myself whether anyone sees my actions or is aware?

Pray:

Dear Father, help me to follow the path you have laid before me. Help me to be truthful and honest in all of my dealings and know that you know me to the very core, you know my failings and shortcomings, the good and the bad, and yet you still love me. Help me to carry the love and forgiveness you offer me out into the world and share it with all I meet. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
