I don’t know what anyone else’s May and June look like, but mine are crazy. We have two graduations this week, a play, a field trip, and the oldest needs to purchase a car. We’re also hosting a party on Saturday to celebrate all the graduations of the past year (4).

Having just updated my resume, my head is spinning with awareness of how much time passed from when I started writing (2004). The son born that year is finishing eighth grade. That’s 740 Small Successes if you’re keeping count. Seven hundred forty weeks of celebrating the little victories of the every day. The contradiction of Small Success Thursday is in the reality of true victories, which almost always involve diminishment of one’s self in service of others. My big moments involve other people. My husband getting me to apologize to my twelve-year old. My daughters and two of my sons spending the evening laughing and sharing stories about dogs they’ve known, talking rather than competing with each other. All of them tackling the clearing out and cleaning out of the basement. (Yay yay yay!). My son graduating from High School, my daughter getting a job, my youngest son shouting, “Let’s Go Caps!” at the television, and writing the whole alphabet with an adaptive device. Spend some time this week (before the Blessed Sacrament if you can) counting your blessings not just from the past week, but from the beginning of one of your favorite people’s coming into your life, and you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by the goodness we take for granted, all the blessings we’ve inhaled like oxygen without noticing.  Our cups always runneth over, even if we don’t know it.

Happy Small Success!

What small successes are you celebrating this week?
