A Year with Divine Mercy: Daily Meditations on God's Eternal Love

As I look out into our world today, I find a disturbing lack of mercy.
Tune into a reality show and chances are you will discover all manner of people who will not even consider forgiving a frenemy. Once an offense is committed, the guilty party is effectively canceled. He or she is forever ostracized from the friend group, never to be heard from again.
But God offers to us a different path — one that is ultimately freeing and healing for our minds and souls. That is the path of mercy.
I know that I am greatly in need of God’s monumental mercy on a daily basis. That is why I was so excited to read the new book A Year with Divine Mercy: Daily Meditations on God’s Eternal Love by Vinny Flynn and Erin Flynn.

Great for Moms and Dads on the Go
This book is a treasure trove of wisdom which is incredibly spiritually enriching. Each page is filled with words of comfort to soothe the weary soul. I think this work is especially helpful to moms and dads with limited time for spiritual reading. In just a few minutes, you can discover incredible guidance for the day ahead.
Each passage includes an introduction, a quotation from a pope, saint, or other trusted source, words of reflection, and a closing prayer. I found the reflections to be especially helpful in entering into a dialogue with God.
Page through the book, and you will find titles that speak eloquently of God’s mercy. “Healing the Wounds of Sin,” “God’s Justice is His Mercy,” and “’Abba,’ the Tender Father” are all examples of the richness and depth of Divine Mercy, which is given so freely and generously by our Heavenly Father.
Advantages of a Daily Devotional
I have discovered there are many reasons to turn to a daily devotional such as A Year with Divine Mercy. The book can be an effective prayer prompt during morning devotions or evening reflections. It can also cause us to look deep within ourselves to see where we might especially need the abundant mercy of God. In addition, a daily devotional can be a helpful conversation starter, giving you interesting insights to share with a spouse, child, or friend.
The Day 80 passage in this wise work is a case in point. Entitled “Confidence in Confession,” the entry includes this comforting quote from Father Jean-Pierre de Caussade:
With regard to confession, be firmly convinced that you need not trouble about it, either on account of your miseries or of your sins.
Who among us has not worried about how a priest-confessor would receive the news of our latest transgressions? Yet, we are to remember that the priest serves as a conduit for God’s mercy, which is more vast than the waters of the ocean.
The passage also includes this reflection by the authors:
Where in my life do I tend to listen to the condemning voice of the accuser, instead of trusting in God’s desire to love and to heal?
Chances are A Year with Divine Mercy will serve as a springboard to a closer, more intimate relationship with your Creator. The minutes you invest each day in pondering the passages will pay off in terms of your spiritual journey, bringing you ever nearer to heaven and to eternal happiness.
