Michelle Nott reviews a newly released sci-fi dystopian novel for teen readers, by Catholic author O McCarthy.

Reach (For the Stars, Book 1)

by O McCarthy

This time of year is always busy; there are so many school activities, holiday activities, and if you’re like me, a lot of waiting time during the activities or school carline. One way I love to pass the waiting time is by getting lost in a book! I recently had the privilege of reading an advance copy of Reach by Catholic author O McCarthy. And let me tell you, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Reach

Reach is a young adult dystopian science fiction novel about a teenage boy named Reach, who recently learns some new information about his identity. The book follows his story as he learns more about himself, his family, the society around him, and all the secrets leadership is hiding. He is forced to make choices that can either help his mission he was given by his mom or become a pawn for the government to use.

It is such a fun read, and I really enjoyed the story line. I am going to be honest and say that I normally do not choose this genre, but after reading this book, I might need to look into reading more!

O McCarthy does such a great job of capturing the reader’s attention right away and creating lots of twists that I never saw coming. I am very impressed with her ability to create a whole other world with such unique characters and specific details. The plotline is engaging and leaves the reader wanting to know more.

Christmas gift idea for teens or young adults

If you are like me, then you are already trying to figure out Christmas gift ideas for your kids. This year our kids will be receiving 4 gifts: something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read. If you also are adopting this method or need an idea for a book to give to a young adult, Reach would be a great possibility!

This is such a fun and captivating story that would make a great gift idea for any young adult in your life that enjoys reading science fiction. I love the fact that it’s a clean story but includes an innocent romance that’s appropriate for a teenager. Another thing I like about it? It’s the first book in a series! So, you can fall in love with the characters and also know that their stories are just beginning.
