Anne DeSantis recounts how she learned to follow her heart as she began her journey through motherhood.

God has blessed all of us with life. But it is our own decision of what we make of it. We live in a world where competition begins at young age. Even when many babies are in the womb, our culture is suggesting we start spending money almost immediately for the baby shower and the beautiful baby room. It is all good, but we can get caught up in some of the unimportant things when we obsess about the perfection of the outward things instead of thinking more about all the love we can give to the baby and to our future families.

Many years from that time, our children won’t care that we had a perfectly decorated room and designer baby clothes. The relationships formed and the time we spend with our families is worth so much more.

In my own life, I had to make similar decisions. When my oldest daughter was in the womb, I had intentions of going right back to my 45-hour-a-week job. I could not have imagined what it would be like to be home and spend that time with my little one. But, a week or two after she was born, I decided to quit my job and be the stay-at-home mom.

I did not know how long that would last, but it lasted a very long time. I wound up homeschooling my children and sacrificing many monetary items to be with them. But it was the best decision I ever made. Not everyone can stay home; some mothers need or prefer to work. Follow your heart, but also follow God’s designs for your life.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for giving us lives with all the good and even some of the bad things that happen. We know you are all good. Thank you for family and thank you for helping us to make the tough decisions of life. We trust you. We turn to you completely to guide all our ways. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord.

Follow your heart, but also follow God’s designs for your life. #catholicmom
