Contrary to what may be in people's imagination, the guardian angel is not a cuddly little baby with curly hair, or an angel who takes care of us only when we are children.
The angel is a creature of pure spirit, extremely intelligent and powerful. Every time he appears in the Holy Scriptures, he causes astonishment and even fear in those with whom he communicates (Genesis 19:1; Luke 1:12; Luke 2:9; and so on). The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us:
From infancy to death human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God. (336)
God loves every human being with infinite love and desires that everyone, one day, may enjoy eternal joy in Heaven. So, to help us on this journey, we have received from God a holy guardian angel, whose mission is precisely to help us get to Heaven.
Father Paulo Ricardo teaches us:
So the guardian angels want and fight for the salvation of men - inspiring them, enlightening them, and sometimes even performing miracles and fighting the demons themselves. Since they are holy instruments who possess intelligence and are free, they are called "ministers" because they have been placed by God at our service. St. John Bosco, when recommending the invocation to the guardian angel in the hour of temptations, said that "he wishes to help you more than you wish to be helped by him.
Therefore, the only thing we need to do is to ask for his powerful help! Unfortunately, our modern world has closed its eyes to the spiritual world, which is as real as the material world. As we live only looking at what is material, we forget to take care of what is more important: the eternal destiny of our soul when we die.
In this way we must learn to relate to our holy guardian angel. St. Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), who had the gift of seeing and talking with the guardian angels, said that we should not leave our angels "idle," we need to give them a lot of work! In a letter he writes:
Always keep [your angel] before the eyes of your soul, remind yourself often of the presence of this angel. Give thanks, pray, always keep good company with him. Open yourself and entrust to him your sufferings. Always take care not to offend the purity of his gaze: know and fix this truth well in your soul. He is very delicate, very sensitive. Turn to him in moments of supreme distress and you will experience his beneficial effects.
I learned this devotion some years ago and I can say that I talk to my guardian angel every day. I will recount here only one of the many experiences I have had with my angel:
On October 18, 2014, the Schoenstatt Movement, in which I am consecrated, would turn 100 years old. The plans were to go to Germany to celebrate this moment, but in February/2014 I had to have a bone marrow transplant to cure a lymphoma. Because of the transplant and the drop in immunity, I had many complications during the year and on October 10, I was hospitalized once again with lung problems.
My wish was to be discharged by the 18th, so that I could at least attend Holy Mass to celebrate such a special date. However, by the 17th I had no prospect of being discharged, so I asked my guardian angel that at least I could receive the Holy Eucharist on this day. I called the person in charge of sending the priest to the hospital and he told me that unfortunately it would not be possible. There were too many calls and they were only taking the severe cases where the person was in the ICU.
Hanging up the phone, I was very upset and gave my guardian angel a "telling off." I said that my situation was already very bad, and he had not even managed to get me to receive Communion.
On the 18th, the first good news early in the morning: inexplicably my exams had improved a lot from one day to the next and I would be released right after lunch! I was so happy, I called my husband to let him know that he could come and pick me up. However, I would have to rest at home and, therefore, I would not be able to go to Mass.
I started to thank my holy angel, apologizing for the previous day's scolding, when the phone rang. It was the person responsible for sending the priest. He told me these exact words: "Look, Flávia, your guardian angel is very powerful. We just received a call from the ICU there in the hospital where you are, and the priest is already on his way. Since he will be there, he will bring Communion for you too!"
I was amazed and very grateful. In the end, besides receiving the Holy Eucharist, I was discharged and could return home to celebrate this very important date with my husband and children.
This was just one of the countless testimonies I could tell you about the times I have perceived the help of my guardian angel. Aside from the times that he certainly helped me, and I didn't realize it. I encourage everyone to ask for help and be inspired by this powerful friend who loves us so much.
Another tip is to ask for help from the guardian angels of the people with whom you relate. Here I am very friendly with my children's guardian angels. I always ask them to help me in the upbringing of each one of them and to inspire me in case one of them needs more specific attention or help. I have never been without an answer!
O Seu Amigo Mais Poderoso
Ao contrário do que pode estar no imaginário das pessoas, o anjo da guarda não é um bebezinho fofinho de cabelos cacheados ou um anjo que cuida de nós apenas quando somos crianças.
O anjo é uma criatura de puro espírito, extremamente inteligente e poderoso. Todas as vezes que aparece nas Sagradas Escrituras causa espanto e até medo naquelas pessoas com as quais ele se comunica (Gn 19,1; Lc 1,12; Lc 2,9; etc). O Catecismo da Igreja Católica nos ensina:
Desde o seu começo até à morte, a vida humana é acompanhada pela sua assistência e intercessão. Cada fiel tem a seu lado um anjo como protetor e pastor para o guiar na vida. Desde este mundo, a vida cristã participa, pela fé, na sociedade bem-aventurada dos anjos e dos homens, unidos em Deus. (336)
Deus ama cada ser humano com amor infinito e deseja que todos, um dia, possam gozar da eterna alegria no Céu. Assim, para nos ajudar nessa jornada, recebemos de Deus um santo anjo da guarda, que tem como missão justamente nos ajudar a chegar no Céu.
O Pe. Paulo Ricardo nos ensina:
Então, os anjos da guarda querem e lutam pela salvação dos homens – inspirando-os, iluminando-os e, às vezes, até realizando milagres e lutando contra os próprios demônios. Como são instrumentos santos que possuem inteligência e são livres, eles são chamados de "ministros", pois foram colocados por Deus ao nosso serviço. São João Bosco, ao recomendar a invocação ao anjo da guarda na hora das tentações, dizia que "ele deseja ajudar você mais do que você deseja ser ajudado por ele.
Portanto, a única coisa que precisamos fazer é pedir a sua poderosa ajuda! Infelizmente nosso mundo moderno fechou os olhos para o mundo espiritual que é tão real como o mundo material. Ao vivermos olhando somente para o que é material, esquecemos de cuidar do que é mais importante: o destino eterno de nossa alma quando morrermos.
Desta forma devemos aprender a nos relacionar com nosso santo anjo da guarda. S. Pe. Pio, que tinha o dom de ver e conversar com os anjos da guarda, dizia que não devemos deixar nossos anjos “ociosos”, precisamos dar a eles muitos trabalhos! Em uma carta ele escreve:
Mantém sempre [teu anjo] diante dos olhos da alma, recorda-te com frequência da presença desse anjo. Agradece, ora, nutre sempre para com ele uma boa companhia. Abre-te e confia a ele teus sofrimentos. Toma sempre cuidado para não ofenderes a pureza do seu olhar: toma conhecimento e fixa bem esta verdade em tua alma. Ele é muito delicado, muito sensível. Dirige-te a ele em momentos de suprema angústia e experimentarás os seus benéficos efeitos.
Já há alguns anos aprendi essa devoção e posso dizer que converso com meu anjo da guarda todos os dias. Conto aqui apenas uma das muitas experiências que tive com o meu anjo:
No dia 18 de outubro de 2014, o Movimento Apostólico de Schoenstatt, no qual sou consagrada, completaria 100 anos. Os planos eram ir para a Alemanha celebrar esse momento, mas em fevereiro/2014 precisei fazer um transplante de medula óssea para curar um linfoma. Por causa do transplante e da queda da imunidade, tive muitas intercorrências durante o ano e no dia 10 de outubro, fui internada mais uma vez com problemas pulmonares.
Meu desejo era ter alta até o dia 18, pois assim poderia, ao menos, ir à Santa Missa para comemorar uma data tão especial. Porém, até o dia 17 não tinha perspectiva de ter alta, então pedi ao meu anjo da guarda que, ao menos, eu pudesse receber a Sagrada Eucaristia nesse dia. Liguei para a pessoa responsável por enviar o sacerdote ao hospital e ela me disse que infelizmente não seria possível. Havia muitas chamadas e eles estavam atendendo só os casos graves, onde a pessoa estava na UTI.
Desligando o telefone, eu estava muito chateada e dei uma “bronca” no meu anjo da guarda. Disse que minha situação já era bem ruim e ele não tinha conseguido nem que eu comungasse...
No dia 18, a primeira boa notícia logo cedo: inexplicavelmente meus exames tinham melhorado muito de um dia para o outro e eu teria alta logo após o almoço! Fiquei super feliz, já liguei para meu marido avisando que poderia vir me buscar. Porém, teria que ficar de repouso em casa e, então, não poderia ir a Santa Missa.
Comecei a agradecer meu santo anjo, pedindo desculpas pela bronca do dia anterior quando toca o telefone. Era a pessoa responsável por enviar o sacerdote. Ele me disse exatamente essas palavras: “Olha, Flávia, seu anjo da guarda é muito poderoso. Acabamos de receber uma ligação da UTI aí do hospital onde você está e o sacerdote já está a caminho. Como ele estará por aí, levará a comunhão para você também!”
Fiquei maravilhada e muito agradecida. No fim, além de receber a sagrada eucaristia eu ainda tive alta e pude voltar para casa, para celebrar essa data tão importante junto ao meu marido e meus filhos.
Esse foi só um dos inúmeros testemunhos que poderia contar sobre as vezes que percebi a ajuda do meu anjo da guarda. Fora as vezes que ele certamente me ajudou e eu não percebi. Assim, incentivo a todos a pedirem ajuda e se deixarem inspirar por esse amigo tão poderoso e que nos ama tanto. Outra dica é pedir ajuda aos anjos da guarda das pessoas com as quais você se relaciona. Aqui, sou muito amiga dos anjos da guarda dos meus filhos. Peço sempre que me ajudem na educação de cada um deles e que me inspirem caso algum precise de uma atenção ou um auxílio mais específico. Nunca fiquei sem resposta!
