Today's Gospel: Luke 21:20-28
Here in the United States, we’re pausing for Thanksgiving. And nothing makes you stop and count your blessings quite like today’s Gospel reading.
“Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers,” we read. “People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming.”
But, after a list that will make you cringe or picture a scene from an Avengers movie, we get the hope that is at the heart of it all: “When these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.”
So often, I let the negative influences feed my Negative Nelly mindset. I turn into the little old lady griping about the kids in my backyard (never mind that they’re MY kids).
In today’s Gospel, though, I hear a promise of more, the anticipation of what’s to come.
It’s not easy to get to it. There will be hurdles.
But, you see, it will be worth it. Keep your sights set on God. Look up, not down.
Ponder:
What are you thankful for? What can you do today to show God that you’re thankful?
Pray:
Lord, You’re coming. And though I know it, I’m so quick to forget. Stay with me and keep me on the path to You.
