Today's Gospel: Luke 8:19-21
Jesus had a way of attracting a crowd. He was the kind of prophet and miracle maker who talked to the lowly and healed the most maligned. He spoke capital-T Truth in a way that made sense--or didn't, depending on whether you were a scholar or a regular person.
Those crowds must have made it challenging for his closest followers--the disciples and family, including Mary--to find Him. Naturally, word spread: "Hey, Jesus, Your people are looking for You!" His response is one of hope for each of us. "If you're listening to me, you are my people."
I'm sure Mary and the disciples made it to Jesus. It's not recorded because it's not the focus of this passage.
Luke wants us to internalize this: WE are his people. You don't have to be special or do something extra or, well, anything. Jesus claims you. He loves you as though you're the only one. You couldn't be more important if you were His mom or His natural family.
Ponder:
How can you embrace Jesus' love for you today?
Pray:
Jesus, thank You for loving me. Help me accept Your love today.
