Today's Gospel: Mark 9:41-50
Salt is good, but if salt becomes insipid, with what will you restore its flavor? Mark 9:50
After experiencing stomach issues for a prolonged period of time, I began removing things from my diet. In doing so, my meals became bland and unsatisfying. Consequently, I found myself sneaking into my pantry to eat cookies and other junk food, trying desperately to gratify my need for flavor. Clearly, that approach wasn’t working and, in fact, was completely counterproductive.
When we fail to engage with our faith, we end up stripping all the life and passion from it, leaving us with something that’s vapid and unfulfilling. That’s when we find ourselves reaching for other things, most often vices, to satisfy the craving within. That approach leads us farther away from our faith, taking even more meaning out of it.
Although salt cannot be re-flavored, our faith can be because we have a God who is always ready to provide. When we reach for Him, He pulls us closer, satiating our desires with His unconditional love, infusing our hearts with delight.
Ponder:
What do I discover when I take the temperature and flavor of my faith?
Pray:
All-fulfilling God, ignite my faith so it’s filled with passion and purpose.
