Today's Gospel: John 11:45-56
Do you feel like you are being used? Maybe at work you had an idea and someone else took it and ran with it without giving you credit. Maybe another parent at your kid’s school is working on the same committee as you, and while they are talking a good game, you are doing most of the work. Neither of those situations are in your favor. Should you say anything? Do you confront the person using you? Do they know nothing about what they are doing to you?
In today’s Gospel, Caiaphas, the high priest that year, thought he knew what he was saying and that the others knew nothing. He said to the Sanhedrin that they should kill the one person that was bothering them, so that His actions did not harm the people, namely themselves. What Caiaphas did not realize was that God was using his position as high priest in order to prophesy that Jesus was going to die not just for the Jews (as well as the scared chief priests and Pharisees) but for all the nations. Caiaphas’ words meant way more than he intended and God used them for our good! All those dispersed children of God included everyone from that time, as well as from our time.
Feeling used is a terrible feeling, but what if God is using the situation you are in? It could be for your good or someone else. Maybe God is using your situation to help that fellow co-worker or committee volunteer to work through something only they can figure out. God has that greater plan intended for our good, even when we feel like we know everything.
Ponder:
What were the times in your life that you felt used? Was God using it for your benefit or the benefit of others?
Pray:
Lord God, thank You for Your Son and the way He died so that we could be gathered back to You.
Pray Together:
As a family, look out for the ways you may be using a family member, and make sure you are not taking them for granted. Take that moment to feel God using the situation for your good.
