Today's Gospel: John 15:18-21

Thankfully, in my line of work and where I live, I have not come under harsh persecution for my faith. Occasionally, I have received responses such as, “That’s your thing, not mine,” or “Save the Jesus talk for someone else.”  I must trust that God fills me with the correct response and keeps my emotions in line with what pleases Him.

A strong relationship with God usually comes from a life-changing event. I can recall when I decided to follow Jesus, and ever since then, my values and attitudes toward worldly things have begun to shift. Like most of us, the old me found entertainment in the strangest places, such as movies, television shows, or books that do not have a faith background. Since my heart and values have changed, I can’t give five minutes to those things.

Not everyone will understand why we, as Christ's followers, can no longer tolerate worldly influences, but it is our job to answer the call and share the values that Christ expects from His followers. It may be as simple as sharing a faith-based streaming service or book club. It only takes one seed to grow and spread like a wildflower. Jesus's values differ from those of the world, and by faithfully following Christ, we can be an example of the Christian way of life.

Ponder:

What worldly things do I need to remove from my life to encompass the values of Jesus?

Pray:

Lord, when I am faced with hatred for my faith, equip me with the armor of God. Place the response in my heart and on my lips to glorify Your holy name.
